Carthage Baseball Pounds Lakeland



The Carthage College baseball team (25-12, 12-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) pounded non-conference opponent Lakeland College. In the first game Carthage took a 9-0 lead after three innings. It was all Carthage baseball from there on out as the scored two in the fourth and four runs in each the fifth, sixth, and seventh. The final score for the Red Men 23-0 gave them the W for the first game.
The Red Men came out hot again in second game as they would put up 10 runs after three innings of play. The Red Men would later jump to a 17-0 lead after six innings. Carthage would go on to win the second game with a final 20-1.
The Red Men put up 43 runs and allowed 1 between the two games. The Red Men now look to carry on the fire as they take on conference opponent North Park at Carthage in their final home game for the 2010 season.

Carthage takes two out of three against Millikin

The Carthage College baseball team (22-12, 11-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Saturday, May 1 doubleheader with CCIW-opponent Millikin University. The Red Men took the first game 13-5 not before coming back. In the bottom on the eighth inning the Red Men were down 5-4. In the top of the ninth the Red Men came back scoring nine runs to pull ahead 13-5.
In the second game Millikin took the game 14-10. The Red Men firsted off good with a 8-2 lead after two innings. As the game went on the Big Blue slowly put up runs to tie the game 10-10. In the bottom of the ninth Millikin hit a walk off grand slam to end the game and giving the Red Men the lost.
On the second day down in Decatur, the Red Men look to come back firing at Millikin. In game three the Red Men came out hot as they took a 5-2 lead after two. In the fifth the Big Blue tied the game 5-5 about later carthage scored two to cut the score to 7-5. In the eight the score was 8-6 and the Red Men would finish off the game by putting up 4 runs in the ninth to make the final score 12-6.

Carthage takes two from Marian





The Carthage College Red Men won both games against Marian on April 27th. The Red Men won two games on the road (7-6 and 9-0). The Red Men came from behind and won the first game after being down by 4 runs in the fourth inning. They tied the game in the seventh 6-6 and scored one in the top of the eighth to win the game. Brett McQuade and Bryan Kieffer Combine on a no hitter in the second game. The Red Men came out firing as they put up 9 runs in seven innings. The Red Men have won six in a row now and look to up that to nine wins this weekend. The Red Men take on Millikin in a three game set this weekend and look to sweep the big blue.

Carthage Baseball Bombs Concordia (Wis.), 18-8





The Carthage College baseball team (16-11, 7-5 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) beat non-conference opponent Concordia University Wisconsin (15-10 season record) 18-8 on Tuesday, April 20.
In the first two innings the Red Men took a 10-0 lead to start off the game. The Red Men would later go up 18-3 in the bottom on the fifth and ended the game in the top on the seventh 18-8 winning by the 10 run rule.
The Carthage Red Men come away with a W and now look to take on CCIW-opponent Augustana College this weekend.

Come out and watch

Carthage plays host to non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 15-9) on Tuesday, April 20 in a 3 p.m. game, also at the Carthage Baseball Field.

Ruffie makes first appearance since undergoing “Tommy John surgery”





Carthage Red Men hurler Trace Ruffie made his first appearance since undergoing “Tommy John surgery” on his elbow last June. This was a big loss for the Red Men this year as Ruffie would have been there top pitcher for the 2010 season. In Ruffies return on April 18th, he blanked the Cardinals on no hits and a walk over the final three innings to earn his first save since his freshman season of 2007. The Red Men look forward to a strong and healthy return for the rest of the season by Ruffie.

Carthage falls to North Central two out of three






The Carthage Red Men(15-11, 7-5 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 28th in the April 13 “D3baseball.com” poll, lost to CCIW-opponent and 35 ranked North Central (20-5, 9-3 CCIW)two out of three. The scores to the games were 14-13 North Central, 11-7 Carthage, and 7-4 North Central.

The Red Men fall to fifth in the conference now after the two loses and look to redeem themselves this weekend as they look to take three against Augustana.
